Aizip teams up Verbio and SoftBank Corp. to Bring Real-Time AI Freshness Assessment to the Frontlines of the Fisheries Industry with Shinsor (tentative name)

Cupertino, CA, August 27, 2025 – Shinsor (tentative name), the award-winning AI solution developed by the partnership between Verbio, SoftBank Corp. (“SoftBank”), and Aizip, is a fish quality control tool to standardize the fisheries industry and reduce waste. It was designed with breakthrough integration of near-infrared (NIR) sensing and on-device artificial intelligence to operate locally in field conditions, allowing Shinsor to deliver real-time, non-invasive freshness evaluations.

For decades, determining fish freshness has relied on subjective human judgment or destructive chemical testing. These methods have proven inconsistent, slow, expensive, and inaccessible to small operators. Shinsor changes that paradigm entirely by combining compact NIR sensors with lightweight AI models that analyze biochemical signatures like the K-value, a well-defined freshness index for fish, on-site—no connectivity, no lab, no guesswork. The application runs on a handheld device, empowering users with instant quality metrics even in the most remote fish markets and boats.

The impact is already being felt. At Akasaka Fisheries in Japan, operators now use Shinsor daily to make real-time decisions on when to transport, freeze, or sell fish. Ryutaro Akasaka, a Director at Akasaka Fisheries, said, “Shinsor’s readings are extremely reliable and useful. I believe these objective measurements align with lab test results and provide immediate insights that helps us optimize processing schedules and storage methods.” A 13-month pilot demonstrated not only a significant drop in spoilage rates but also more accurate pricing and better alignment between product quality and market demand.

The key to Shinsor’s field-readiness is its local processing capability. Users can perform quality assessments entirely offline, critical for maritime environments or rural markets with limited connectivity or power. The system also improves over time through a cloud-based self-learning update pipeline that activates when connectivity is available, ensuring optimal performance without sacrificing usability.

“Shinsor proves that high-impact AI doesn’t have to be massive cloud models with billions of parameters.” said Nathan Francis, Head of Business Development at Aizip. “It is most effective where the decisions are made: on the dock, in the truck, in the market. This is AI solving real-world problems where they happen.”
Aizip believes that Shinsor could be a foundational technology in the global seafood supply chain, and hopes it will be adopted in markets, grocery stores, restaurants and even home kitchens worldwide.

By enabling trusted, efficient, and sustainable fish handling at scale, Shinsor represents a rare convergence of cutting-edge AI and real-world practicality. It’s not just innovation—it’s impact, delivered locally.

This project was realized through international collaboration with two key partners:

SoftBank Corp. (Tokyo, Japan)
Guided by the SoftBank Group’s corporate philosophy, “Information Revolution – Happiness for everyone,” SoftBank Corp. (TOKYO: 9434) operates telecommunications and IT businesses in Japan and globally. Building on its strong business foundation, SoftBank Corp. is expanding into non-telecom fields in line with its “Beyond Carrier” growth strategy while further growing its telecom business by harnessing the power of 5G/6G, IoT, Digital Twin and Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) solutions, including High Altitude Platform Station (HAPS)-based stratospheric telecommunications. While constructing AI data centers and developing homegrown LLMs specialized for the Japanese language with 1 trillion parameters, SoftBank is integrating AI with radio access networks (AI-RAN), with the aim of becoming a provider of next-generation social infrastructure.
